Get Their Attention with Valuable Content

A content marketing program can be a key strategy to raise visibility, establish your expertise and build trust in your target markets. The trick is to develop content of value to your ideal target market, and then push it out across a variety of channels to engage prospective clients. Here's how...

Let your blog take the lead, fill it with compelling topics.

When you're creating your blog posts, you must keep in mind the interests of your ideal clients. What are their problems and concerns? Make up a list of relevant topics along these lines and develop an "editorial calendar."

One way to help you relate to this audience is to have an actual client in mind. This tactic lends a personality to the clients you're trying to target, and it's easier to write for someone you know.

Make your posts easy to scan so the reader gets the idea quickly. Break your content into bite-sized information chunks, and use bold subheads and bullets to help readers grasp the information quickly.

Next, push your content out via a variety of channels.

Social Media:   Promote your blog posts on social media platforms that are relevant to your field:  LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, etc. Remember to post to your LinkedIn groups.

Newsletter:   Send the blog articles out in a monthly newsletter to reach your target audience directly. You can supplement your article with content provided by pre-packaged newsletters in your industry.

Media:   Use the content to pitch an idea to industry media.

Client Events:    Turn the information into topics for "lunch and learns," panels, workshops, or seminars.

Conferences:   Pitch the topic for a presentation at an industry conference.

If you want your content marketing program to be successful, don't just leave it to when your or your employees have the time. You'll need to assign resources (either internal or external) for writing the articles, uploading to your website and social media, laying out the newsletter, and pitching to media and professional organizations.
