Know Your Target Audience

Who are you trying to reach with your marketing campaign? It's important to have a clear profile of your target audiences if you want to create compelling marketing messages that grab their attention. 

 

Define your target audiences

First of all, your target audience is more than just your ideal clients. Here are some suggested audiences for your marketing efforts: 

    • Current clients      
    • Potential clients    
    • Business partners   
    • Referral sources     

Uncover what's important to them

It's crucial to understand the priorities and concerns of your key audiences in order to successfully position your services to match up with their needs. A simple way to gain this valuable insight is by conducting a series of informal interviews with existing clients, business partners and referral sources.  Suggested questions: 

  1. What services do we provide? (You may be surprised by how little some  people know about your full complement of services.)
  2. What are the key problems that we solve for you? 
  3. What are the benefits of our services?
  4. What do you value most about working with us?
  5. Who is our main competition?
  6. How do we stand out among similar firms?

Craft messages that will hit the sweet spot 

A survey like this will uncover what is most important to your clients and referral sources and what they value most about your company. It also gives you insight into the words and phrases that will resonate most in your marketing messages.  In addition, this exercise may highlight services that need more promoting.
